Adalvo expands biosimilars portfolio with Romiplostim programme acquisition from Enzene

Acquisition accelerates Adalvo’s expansion into complex biologics and strengthens its biosimilars portfolio across development and commercialisation

Adalvo announces the acquisition from Enzene of a romiplostim biosimilar programme referencing Nplate, strengthening its biosimilars portfolio and accelerating its expansion into complex biologics.

Building on its experience bringing complex pharmaceuticals to global markets, Adalvo is expanding into biologics and building a biosimilars portfolio from cell line development to commercialisation.

Its global partners will gain access to more technically complex medicines through its integrated development, regulatory, supply and commercial platform, creating a new source of long-term growth for Adalvo in a strategically important market.

The programme references Nplate (romiplostim), which is indicated for adult and chronic paediatric immune thrombocytopenia (ITP).

Developed using microbial cell line technology, it aligns with Adalvo’s focus on high-value, complex medicines.

With Nplate generating approximately $1.5bn in global sales in 2025, the programme offers a significant global opportunity to broaden access to high-quality biologics.

“Biosimilars are a natural extension of Adalvo’s capabilities and an important part of our long-term growth strategy. This acquisition adds a technically sophisticated programme, combining Enzene’s scientific and manufacturing expertise with Adalvo’s global development, regulatory and commercial platform," commented Anil Okay, CEO, Adalvo.

"We are proud to partner with this highly respected organisation and look forward to a long-term strategic relationship beyond this programme,”

“This partnership is a milestone for Enzene,” commented Himanshu Gadgil, PhD, CEO, Enzene.

“Having taken romiplostim from cell line development to regulatory approval and commercial supply in India, we are entrusting Adalvo to bring it to patients internationally while remaining its development and manufacturing partner."

"The transaction strengthens our position as a leading global biosimilar CDMO, developing, scaling and manufacturing complex biologics, backed by deep scientific, regulatory and GMP expertise and a proven multi-market track record. We look forward to growing this relationship.”

The transaction marks a strategic shift for Enzene. With an integrated platform spanning cell line and process development, clinical supply and commercial manufacturing, Enzene is now a global biosimilar CDMO of choice, focused fully on biologics contract development and manufacturing.

It will remain Adalvo’s development and manufacturing partner for romiplostim, supporting filings with the US FDA, European Medicines Agency and other international regulators, and supplying the product from its GMP-approved facilities in Pune, India.

The partnership advances Enzene’s transition of its biosimilar pipeline to commercial partners and expands its CDMO offering to global biopharmaceutical companies.

The acquisition reinforces Adalvo’s commitment to a differentiated, high-value pharmaceutical portfolio through strategic investments, licensing and targeted acquisitions.

Its biosimilars expansion advances its evolution as a global pharmaceutical company delivering complex and innovative treatments across international markets.
