Guardlid, a new aluminium-based medicine packaging from Alcan, has proved helpful to many pharmaceutical companies with child resistance legislation requirements.
It comprises laminates with polyester or oriented polyamide film, which provide puncture resistance and enhanced peelability in accordance with US and EU legal provisions. Carefully engineered bond strengths are used to provide the necessary peel-push, peel-open or tear- open features desired for the final product.
Regulations have been drawn up in a number of countries requiring that child resistant packaging be used for pharmaceuticals, and the Guardlid material has been fully tested and approved to comply with European child-resistant standards (EN 14375) and potential new EU regulations.
The company has said that several major customers have already assessed and approved its structure on their lines, and new packs with the child resistant material are expected to appear in stores soon.
