Alistair Steel elected new CIA president

Alistair Steel, Managing Director of Rhodia UK, was elected as the new President of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) at the Association's AGM. He succeeds Dr Tony Bastock OBE, managing director, Contract Chemicals Ltd.

Most recently Alistair Steel has been chairing the CIA's Steering Group on the European Commission's Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of CHemicals (REACH) proposals. He is also a member of the Business &Trade Board and has been a member of the CIA's governing Council for three years.

Commenting on his election, Steel said: 'It is a great honour to be elected President and I thank all my colleagues on the CIA Council for their trust and support. I am looking forward to the challenge of driving forward changes in the ways our member companies operate to meet the legitimate expectations society has of our industry.'
