Altus broadens its range of technologies

Altus Biologics has added drug metabolite production and lead optimisation capabilities to its broad range of biotransformation technologies. Based on P450 enzyme systems, a group of enzymes that are responsible for, among other things, the metabolism of many of the drugs in use today, Altus has developed proprietary technologies that can be used in the production of drug metabolites from a parent compound.

Using these systems, Altus can supply metabolites in sufficient quantities to allow extensive ADME and toxicity testing in drug development programmes. The company is also supporting drug discovery and lead optimisation efforts by providing customers with a range of drug metabolites and oxidised drug derivatives for HTS of therapeutic activity and further structural elucidation. 'Altus has created the capability to quickly and cost-effectively produce drug metabolites,' said Joe Blanchard, vp of business development.
