APS acquires case packers

Contract packer APS Berk of Eastbourne is continually investing to increase efficiency on its blister packing lines. The company currently runs four lines, and each has recently been equipped with a BFB CP28 case packer from IMA. In addition, IMA has also installed one of the latest cartoners from BFB, known as the A250.

The case packers offer reliable operation and make it easy to change sizes for maximum flexibility. Until now, APS's two flexible lines have used the IMA TR130 blister packer and K150 cartoner, both of which can be changed from one format to another very quickly. The other two packing lines are faster but less flexible and are designed for longer runs.

The new A250 cartoners replaces one of the K150 models and was selected to be faster, as well as flexible. The previous combination could produce up to 200 blisters and 110 cartons/min.

However, recent legislative changes means that otc cartons tend now to carry fewer strips, so the cartoner needs to run at the same speed as the blister packer. The A250 can handle up to 250 cartons/min.
