APS software aids scheduling for Geneva

Geneva Pharmaceuticals has successfully completed implementation of the Ortems advanced planning and scheduling (APS) software for managing production scheduling at its Broomfield, CO, US facility.

Geneva is an affiliate of Novartis and selected Ortems to augment its SAP R/3 implementation to fast-track plant-floor scheduling benefits.

The company was previously calculating schedules using output data from R/3 that then had to be input manually into Excel spreadsheets. The result was weekly schedules that had to be adjusted daily. Ortems gives them the ability to do finite constraint-based scheduling and optimisation within the shift, managing such critical constraints as sequencing to reduce cleanup time and synchronising production with the complexities of final packaging.
