Automated filling system for pre-sterilised stoppered vials
What is claimed to be the first standardised automated filling system for pre-sterilised stoppered vials has been launched by US company M&O Perry Industries. The P1540 is said to be ideal for pilot plants, r&d facilities and biotech companies looking to automate small-scale liquid filling operations. Capable of filling up to 45 vials/minute, the machine eliminates the need for on-site cleaning and sterilising of vials and stoppers.
Unlike other filling systems on the market, the P1540 handles pre-sterilised stoppered vials, which come double-wrapped from suppliers. The outer wrap is removed inside the cleanroom that houses the P1540 and the vials are transferred to the infeed rotary table. The inner wrap is removed inside the P1540's Class 100 enclosure, which contains the entire machine.
Vials are automatically fed from the unscrambling table into the pocketed conveyance system and transferred to the first process station where the stopper is removed from the vial. Liquid is filled into the vial using a diving needle filling mechanism. The stopper, held by an indexed rotating arm, is then re-inserted into the same vial from which it was removed. The P1540 handles vial from 15-55mm in diameter and 32-100mm in height with neck finishes of 13-20mm.
