Bayer Pharma France has sold its Bayer Classics generics business to Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, of Israel, for €97m (US$85m). The transaction, which includes the production site in Sens, is expected to be completed during the second quarter of 2002.

Barcelona-based Bayvit, the Spanish generics company company owned 50% each by Bayer Group and Vita Invest, has been acquired by STADA Arzneimittel, of Bad Vilbel in Germany. Bayvit is the second largest generics supplier in Spain with sales of €20m ($18m) last year. Its product range encompasses 27 generics.

The moves reflect Bayer's strategy to concentrate on innovative medicines.
