Benson Group, the folding carton printer, is to offer for the first time pharmaceutical labels from its Medica Packaging facility in Cheshire.

The company has installed a seven-colour Gallus EM340S label press at its Medica Packaging facility in Crewe in a move which Benson Group managing director Mark Kerridge said would enable the company to sell pharmaceutical customers cartons, leaflets and labels from a single site.

Being able to place orders for all three products from one site not only helps ensure consistent quality, but also benefits the audit process, he said.

The press prints a range of label formats, including reverse printing, printing on adhesive, edge slit and inline die cutting, as well as onto a range of materials, from paper to unsupported film, with weights from 25 to 400 microns.

Alongside the press, Medica has installed a Scantech VisionTrack rewind and inspection machine, which checks barcodes and consecutively numbers each label in one pass.

Benson Group specialises in food and pharmaceutical packaging and employs around 400 people across four sites in Bardon, Leicestershire, Newcastle, Gateshead and Crewe. The company recently acquired various trading assets of Glasgow-based packaging company Cameron Linn.

Pharmaceutical clients include GlaxoSmithKline and Reckitt Benkiser.
