Boilerhouse quadruples steam generation capacity
As part of a £6m (US$9m) expansion project, a new boilerhouse has been installed at Ipsen Biopharm's pharmaceutical plant in Wrexham. Designed and built by Glossop-based Thermal Transfer and using equipment and controls supplied by Spirax Sarco, of Cheltenham in the UK, the installation has quadrupled the site's steam generation capacity.
The plant features total condensate recovery, a new aerator, feedtank and blowdown vessel. A clean steam generator produces clean steam by using some of the output from the two 2,725kg/h boilers. The boilers' output is then used as the energy source to produce ultra pure steam for distribution to hygienic applications such as autoclaves and freeze dryers, as well as producing water for injection for the pharmaceutical industry.
