The European Commission has cleared the deal, acting as EU competition regulator for cross-border EU takeovers. It concluded the purchase would not cause competition problems in Europe and imposed no conditions on Alliance Boots Holdings Ltd (which will formally acquire Megapharm) despite the UK firm also being involved in pharmaceutical wholesaling.

The German company provides specialised wholesaling and logistics services for oncology products and related services. The Commission was sufficiently confident to use its simplified merger review procedure.
