Cash injection from Pfizer
Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS) has received a £1m donation from Pfizer UK. It is currently in the process of building a scientific research complex funded by the Science Research Investment Fund and the grant will provide a welcome boost to that development as well as underpinning the expansion of emerging research programmes, according to Professor Jon Cohen, dean of BSMS.
'The grant is particularly valuable because, as uncommitted funds, it allows us to support the research programme in both clinical and basic science,' he said.
BSMS is funded by the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) and the Department of Health. Its four key research areas are infectious diseases, ageing and elderly care, neuroscience and cancer and genetics.
