Charles River Laboratories has purchased an NV2 fully automatic, self-adhesive labelling system from Newman Labelling Systems for its Charleston facility in South Carolina, US.

Charles River Laboratories provides global solutions for drug discovery and development processes, employing more than 8,000 people at a number of US sites.

The company bought its first Newman labelling system in 2005 for labelling test tubes and small vials. Following the success of this first installation, the company returned to Newman when it chose to upgrade its inspection/labelling line.

Initially the NV2 was chosen by Charles River Laboratories because of its ability to label round bottom tube vials, but flexibility was also key. Charles River Laboratories supplied Newman with 12 different labels and formats to set up and the NV2 was able to cope with them all.

The machine labels up to 150 containers per minute, yet remains highly accurate in its label placement. It is also very versatile as it can be used on cylindrical, flat and square containers from 10mm to 150mm, with minimal change parts.

For Charles River Laboratories, the NV2 has been supplied with an integrated pack-off table and a Markem thermal transfer printer, enabling the printing of variable formats, text fields and bar codes.
