Chromacol restores glass gold standard

In certain analyses, usually HPLC analyses, component peaks are known to have disappeared. Research carried out by Chromacol, of the UK, has found that some sample types, namely low concentrations of polar materials, are known to stick to normal glass surfaces and this can cause the disappearance of peaks from the chromatogram.

This problem can be overcome, the company says, by using its Gold Grade glass vials, whose reduced surface activity can reduce this effect significantly. The vials are produced under stringent temperature conditions and at a slower rate to maintain the low surface content of the alkaline components believed to be the source of the adsorption.
