Co-operation in DNA extraction
Agowa, the Berlin-based genomics company, and Hamilton Bonaduz of Switzerland, are extending their co-operation in the field of fully automated nucleic acid extraction.
The latest result of this collaboration is MagMaxiSep, a system for the fully automated DNA extraction from whole blood. The system consists of the Agowa Maxisep 7200, a 72-well magnetic bead separator, which is combined with the Hamilton Microlab Sampler DNA Workstation. Using Agowa's mag Maxi DNA isolation kits, up to 30 µg of complete DNA can be extracted from a wide range of sample material using a simple, reliable and fully automated procedure.
Agowa provides kits for the extraction of nucleic acids from whole blood or other biological material for the use in PCR analysis based on magnetic beads. Magnetic bead separators have also been developed for automation of the extraction process. Hamilton Bonaduz is a leading manufacturer of pipetting robots with a long standing reputation for innovation and reliability.
The increasing significance of the PCR methodology and higher demands on throughput have identified DNA isolation with traditional methods as being a limiting and error-prone step of the process. The aim of this collaboration between the two firms is to offer European customers the best in automation DNA extraction by combining proven reagents with reliable automation.
