The Dow Chemical Company has introduced Carbowax Sentry Polyethylene Glycol (PEG) 300, 400, and 600 low aldehyde grades for the pharmaceutical excipients industry.

These NF, FCC grades are certified to meet additional specification limits for total aldehydes and peroxides. They carry a lower specification limit for ethylene glycol (EG).

Dow says the new grades are for applications involving gelatin encapsulation or in formulations where inherent aldehyde impurities may be detrimental to the formulation stability. The use of grades with low aldehyde and peroxide impurity levels should also enhance formulation shelf life. In cases where dosage levels are high, the reduced EG level will assist in compliance with USP <467>.

Carbowax Sentry PEGs are produced under strict cGMP compliance and meet the requirements of the US Pharmacopia/National Formulary (USP/NF), the European Pharmacopoeia (EP), and the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC).
