DuPont planning to develop glutaric acid
A global market development programme for glutaric acid has been launched by DuPont Nylon Intermediates and Specialties. Glutaric acid can provide pH buffering in pharmaceuticals and is also used as an intermediate. Another application for which DuPont sees potential is for preparing controlled release dosages of sparingly soluble basic drugs.
Initially the company will focus on opportunities for glutaric acid solution, but it is also evaluating production of anhydrous flake for selected markets and applications. Sample quantities of a 50% aqueous solution and of flaked product are already available, and DuPont expects the product to be commercially available later this year. It will then have the flexibility to scale up rapidly to meet market demand, it says.
