EMA launches new heart medicine review
Agency is to take another look at side-effects of NSAIDs
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has launched a new review on whether non-selective NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) can damage cardiovascular health.
Its probe covers authorised medicines such as diclofenac, etodolac, ibuprofen, indomethacin, ketoprofen, meloxicam, nabumetone, naproxen, nimesulide and piroxicam.
EMA will assess relevant studies released since 2006, notably a recent EU-funded research project SOS (‘safety of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs’).
