A consulting, training and research institute into microencapsulation has been launched in Europe, funded by €1.8m of EU money.

The ncapsolutions group will advise on turning capsule technologies into viable business products, with the pharmaceutical market a key target. Its services will include technology consulting, training sessions, the organisation of technical events and project management services.

Project partner Damien Lemaire told a European Commission's research database that ncapsolutions would try to help companies clear major obstacles impeding the development of capsule products. This, he said, 'requires the combined expertise of a lot of people from different domains of research and development and industry,' with businesses having to pinpoint solutions from a wide diversity of available microencapsulation technologies.

As a result, he said, the institute's main aim would be helping companies find appropriate partners, pro-viding 'one-stop-shop for businesses'. A full range of services should be available by the end of this year, said Mr Lemaire.
