A national event for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry is set to reveal how firms can achieve significant business benefits by reducing their environmental impact.

The Envirowise Conference 2007, to be held in Manchester on 5 December, will bring together key environmental organisations, industry stakeholders and chemical and pharmaceutical companies to spread environmental best practice and advice.

Guest speakers from major stakeholders, including the ABPI, Shasun and AstraZeneca, will give an industry perspective, while environmental organisations including Envirowise, the Carbon Trust and the National Industrial Symbiosis Programme (NISP) will present the business case for becoming more resource efficient, and discuss specific areas in which action can be taken.

"Environmental impact is already a key consideration for firms operating in the sector, as they need to keep on top of increasingly stringent legislation," said Envirowise chemicals specialist Geoff Leaver. "However, compliance is far from the only reason to prioritise the issue."

"This event will help companies to understand the real commercial and financial gains available to them. Plus, the line up of top industry experts will give practical information and advice on areas such as resource efficiency and carbon emission reduction, which delegates can go on to apply to their own operations."
