Exopack Advanced Coatings has added a PSA coated polyurethane film that provides protection against bacteria and MRSA to its Inspire range.
The material contains silver xyz in both the polyurethane and acrylic PSA and has demonstrated a log 4 reduction in bacterial activity when in contact with MRSA. Studies have shown there is no silver migration beyond the film edge so it is unlikely that any dressing manufactured from the product would be characterised as a class 3 device.
Exopack says the incorporation of antibacterial material in both the upper and lower surface ensures complete patient protection. Bacteria that may migrate onto the surface of the dressing will be killed, while the antibacterial adhesive will protect the underside of the dressing.
Inspire polyurethane film without PSA has the same antibacterial properties as the adhesive version and is available as a material for coating or laminating to a variety of wound dressings.
Both materials maintain the matt finish and low coefficient of friction associated with existing Inspire films. The polyurethane is available cast onto either a paper or film material.
The products can be coloured to create a "silver" appearance and printed with a logo or other information.
Other products in the Inspire range include breathable foams, acrylate adhesives, clear polyurethane films and conductive media.
