Firefighting crews from Berkshire, Surrey and London were called to contain the blaze at MY Healthcare in the Thorpe Industrial Estate in Egham, Surrey - a division of international packaging group Nampak based in Egham, Surrey.

At its height, the blaze required the assistance of nine engines and up to 130 firefighters. And firefighters used water from a nearby lake on the industrial estate, which is the size of a football pitch, to help douse the flames.

A spokesperson said once the fire had got hold, the warehouse roof started to collapse, it became unsafe for firefighters to continue. However, firefighters were able to stop the blaze spreading to the office building and nearby buildings were able to operate as usual on Sunday.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

MY Healthcare told Print Week that customers were being contacted individually to discuss plans for minimal disruption and ongoing manufacture at other folding carton sites within the MY Healthcare network.

MY Healthcare is part of Nampak, produces of printed folding cartons, patient information leaflets, self-adhesive labels and printed foils used in blister packs across multiple sites in the UK, Ireland and mainland Europe.
