Galileo buys Phytera
Biopharmaceutical company Galileo Laboratories has acquired Phytera, of Sheffield in the UK, and the marine microbial libraries of Phytera Inc, based in Worcester, Massachusetts. The Phytera plant and marine microbe collections provide Galileo with substantial and renewable natural product-derived chemical diversity. Galileo's collections now include plant species represent- ing 85% of the world's taxonomic orders.
The acquisition broadens Galileo's therapeutic design capability by serving as an important source of novel molecular building blocks for the rational design of therapeutics.
'This acquisition strengthens our efforts in the discovery of therapeutics for redox failure and provides the basis for enlarging our intellectual property and strengthening our competitive position,' said Guy Miller, chief executive officer of Galileo.
