German company Gerresheimer Group, of Duesseldorf, has agreed to acquire the pharmaceutical glass operations of US company Comar, based in Vineland, New Jersey.
Comar sales in the pharma glass sector totalled around US$24m in 2006.
Comar uses tubular glass to produce high quality pharmaceutical vials and system components for pharmaceuticals, diagnostics and analytical systems. Closure of the deal is to take place at the end of March.
Gerresheimer is one of the leading manufacturers of pharma glass in the US with eight production plants in North America. 'With highly developed production technologies and an outstanding product range, the glass division of Comar ideally complements the Gerresheimer product portfolio,' said Dr Axel Herberg, president and ceo of the Gerresheimer Group.
At the beginning of this year the Group purchased Wilden, thereby becoming one of the leading European suppliers of plastic-based pharmaceutical systems. In 2006 Gerresheimer also focused on entry into the Chinese market: through numerous acquisitions in this fast-growing market region Gerresheimer secured a leading role as a supplier of products for the pharma/life-science sector.
