CPhI is holding a two-day programme of lectures, with in depth information on pharma- ceutical techniques at a highly scientific level
The CPhI conference sessions are once again concentrating on providing information concerning the latest and newest formulations, techniques and products. The conference has two high profile keynote speakers: Professor Pierre Gilles de Gennes and Bernard Rivière. Prof. de Gennes is a Nobel Prize winner in Physics, awarded in 1991 for discovering that methods developed for studying order phenomena in simple systems could be generalised to more complex forms of matter; in particular to liquid crystals and polymers. At the conference he will be discussing 'Principles of adhesion: from hard systems to soft systems'.
The second keynote speaker is the chairman of the Union des Industries Chimiques, the professional organising body for all French chemical companies. Bernard Rivière will be talking about responsible care and safety - a topic of great relevance to many in the industry. The two-day conference is from October 1-2, and is divided into two areas: Custom Manufacturing and Formulation.
In addition to the seminars there is a one-day workshop, a poster session, and a panel discussion between the pharma and fine chemical industry. The seminar has been organised by RSSL Pharma and is on October 1. It is entitled 'Taking otcs and herbal medicinal products from the US to Europe' and begins at 9am and continues all day in Conference room 501.
The posters, which cover subjects such as chiral stationary phases, a practical synthesis for protease inhibitors, and a new method for characterising buccal dissolution of drugs, will be held in the Salle de Reunion 5 at the conference centre.
A new idea introduced at this year's CPhI is a panel meeting between the pharma and fine chemical industries. Orgainsed by Dr Peter Pollak, a Swiss fine chemicals business consultant, the panel will consist of keynote personnel from both sectors discussing a range of topics such as future trends in outsourcing, value pricing, intellectual property rights and risk sharing. The meeting will take place in conference rooms 502/503 on October 1 from 16:30 -18:00 and will be followed by a cocktail reception.
