Helsinn concept comes on line

Helsinn Advanced Synthesis, based in Biasca, Switzerland, is now fully on stream with its new concept for active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing.

In the first phase, four reactors of 4000l each have been installed in two separate bays, which are separated into defined and isolated production and maintenance areas.

To every reactor bay a centrifuge is allocated in a separate containment bay, and isolated vacuum dryers complete the manufacturing sequence. 'This is chemical production at pharma levels, seldom seen elsewhere,' commented Roger Laforce, director of marketing and sales.

Helsinn offers contract manufacturing to the pharma industry for APIs, high potency active ingredients and advanced intermediates in three cGMP production plants.
