Herma UK supplies bespoke labelling system to Life Technologies

To improve line efficiencies and processes

Life Technologies, a provider of global biotechnology tools to support laboratory operations, has installed a bespoke labelling system developed by Herma UK.

Life Technologies had been applying labels to plastic cartridges manually, which did not provide any guarantee of accuracy or repeatability.

Haverhill, Suffolk-based Herma UK carried out trials using Life Technologies’ product to develop a bespoke system to apply 10 x 14mm labels repeatedly to within an accuracy of 0.5mm and in doing so, improved both line efficiencies and processes.

The patented Herma ‘moving beak’ system accurately dispenses a label onto a vacuum pad to within 0.5mm before a pneumatic telescopic arm transfers the label onto the product.

Life Technologies’ engineering manager David Myles said: ‘The challenge to fit a labelling system within our restricted manufacturing space, along with dispensing a small label to such a tight tolerance was one which Herma approached with enthusiasm. The specified system well exceeded our expectation and we are very pleased with the end result.’

Herma provides labelling solutions and systems from simple manual dispensers and series machines, through to tailor-made solutions for individual high-tech labelling tasks.
