Hilge chooses perfluoroelastomers

DuPont Dow Elastomer's Kalrez 6221 perfluoroelastomer parts have been chosen to seal Hilge-Pumpen's Euro-Hygia, Hygiana-HT and Contra pump series.

Kalrez 6221 perfluoroelastomer parts meet the compliance standards set by the FDA, GAMP and 3A-Sanitary. In Europe, the draft DIN EN 12462 Biotechnology legislation sets out performance criteria for pumps in terms of cleanability and sterilisation, leakage, materials and their surfaces, and design details in relation to CIP and SIP capabilities. Dupont Dow's parts are specified to reduce the risk of leakages of chemical and ultra-pure water used, for example, during CIP and SIP procedures at temperatures up to 160°C.

Andrew Wilkins, of DuPont Dow, said: 'Kalrez combines the sealing properties of a perfluoroelastomer with the inertness and purity of PTFE, to provide an effective solution of processes requiring minimal contamination, as well as longer sealing life.'
