Indian company accused of supplying fake drugs to Ghana
Bliss GVS Pharma officials said to have apologised for supplying fake antimalaria product
Indian drug makers continue to find themselves on the wrong side of global regulators. Maharashtra-based Bliss GVS Pharma is allegedly supplying 'fake' medicines in Ghana, according to the African nation's health watchdog.
The Food and Drug Authority (FDA) Ghana said in a statement that officials of Bliss GVS Pharma of India and Ghanaian drug maker Tobinco Pharmaceuticals have apologised to it for importing `fake malaria medicine' to Ghana to treat malaria in children.
The director of Bliss GVS Pharma is said to have confessed to the FDA that the suppository is fake and that no clinical trial study has been conducted on it and also admitted that it is not used to treat malaria in children in India.
The FDA said it has seized and destroyed large consignments of unregistered medicines from various regional medical stores and hospitals in the country.
