US custom chemical manufacturer Tetrionics has approved plans for a major expansion next year, which will more than double the size of its existing 23,500ft2 facility in Madison, Wisconsin.

The move is being driven by an increase in demand for Tetrionics' custom chemical manufacturing services for highly potent APIs, including category III and category IV compounds.

Expected to be completed by the summer of 2005, the new two-storey, 30,000ft2 addition will include: expanded research and development suites; analytical laboratories; additional cGMP, kilolab manufacturing suites; and increased warehouse space The company hopes to break ground on the extension as early as the fourth quarter of 2004.

Tetrionics will also expand capabilities in its existing pilot plant facility through the installation of a 200-gallon reactor and the addition of a filter/isolator system that will allow for expanded category III and IV product manufacturing in the existing facility. These additions are expected to be complete and operational by third quarter of 2004.

'There are very few companies that understand the unique intricacies involved with the manufacture of highly potent APIs,' said Peter O. Johnson, founder and president of Tetrionics. 'The expansion of our facility further positions us to provide unparalleled service in the high-potency API manufacturing market. 'The addition to the existing pilot facility will strengthen our ability to serve our customers and will further entrench Tetrionics' leadership position in the high-potency API development and manufacturing marketplace.'
