Interphex reinvents itself

Published: 9-Feb-2002

Interphex, long known as the UK's only dedicated exhibition for pharmaceutical manufacturing, is to widen its profile, according to the organiser Reed Exhibitions.

Traditionally, Interphex has concentrated on pharmaceutical packaging and processing technology, and while this will remain at the core of the show, Reed says research has shown that as the production chain becomes increasingly sophisticated, so pharmaceutical professionals need a wider perspective of the factors influencing their day-to-day business.

For example, the rise of biotechnology and the advent of pharmacogenomics can have an impact on downstream activities, such as production techniques and delivery systems. There must therefore be an understanding of the connection between drug development and the manufacturing processes, dosage forms and packaging formats.

To this end, Reed says it has reprofiled the show as a 'pure pharmaceutical event', with the addition of a Biotechnology Zone and a Drug Delivery Zone, the latter being sponsored by The Parenteral Society.

A new, non-commercial seminar programme will also run alongside the event, including sessions organised by the ISPE (International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineers), who are the official supporters of the exhibition, and The Parenteral Society. There will also be a session looking at the impact of biotechnology on pharmaceutical production.

Full details of the seminar programme, which will be free to registered visitors, will be published in next month's Interphex column.

The May issue of Manufacturing Chemist will include an exhibition preview, featuring a selection of the most exciting developments at the show. Now is the time to send in your company's editorial to be considered for inclusion. Your information should be no longer than 300 words and must reach the editor by 29 March. You can submit your copy by e-mail (hayshford@wilmington.co.uk), fax (+44 1732 470070) or post.

Interphex takes place on 21-23 May at the National Exehibition Centre, Birmingham, UK. Visitors can pre-register for fast track entry by visiting: www.interphex.co.uk
