A specially designed label that can render a blisterpack child-resistant has been introduced into the UK by Manchester-based GP Solutions (UK).

The internationally patented label is a joint development between GP Solutions and US sister company Citation Clinical Labeling Systems.

The label combines permanent and peelable adhesive, which is laid down in a pattern to match the layout of the blister and the tablet pockets. The peelable sections are over the pocket areas and are perforated. With these sections in place it is very difficult to push the tablets out, but when they are removed the tablets can be pushed through the foil.

The label can be designed to fit the majority of existing blister packs, and can accommodate different foil and board surfaces by varying the contact adhesives accordingly. The label can be integrated into high speed packaging lines with the minimum of investment.

The label has already been tested, approved and supplied for clinical packs in the US and Europe and GP Solutions is currently in discussions with a number of label substrate suppliers in the US with a view to manufacturing the label material both in the US and Europe.
