Lek gets its fill of capsules

Lek Pharmaceuticals has selected Planeta 100 and MGFutura capsule filling machines produced by MG2, of Pianoro, Italy - a leading manufacturer of automatic dosing machines for pharmaceutical products in hard gelatine capsules - for installation in its plants.

Lek, part of the Novartis Group since 2002 and headquartered in Lubjana, Slovenia, has more than 2,500 employees. It chose the MGFutura and Planeta 100 continuous motion capsule filling machines for their versatility and modular designs, both in terms of dosing capacity and production speed.

The machines are suitable for use in r&d laboratories and can be easily scaled up to transfer laboratory results directly to the production line by using any of the other MG2 capsule filler models, all of which employ the same dosing principle. The MGFutura's modular design makes it highly flexible in terms of dosing applications and operating speed. It will dose hard gelatine capsules with all pharmaceutical types currently in use, and allows different combinations according to user-specific requirements. Production speeds range from 6,000-48,000 capsules an hour, but can be upgraded.

The Planeta operates at production speeds of 6,000, 12,000, 25,000 and 50,000 capsules per hour, but can reach 100,000 per hour on the Planeta 100. It is equipped with the SWC statistical weight control system for filled capsules, although customers can select the NETT in-process weight control system.

Nearly 200 MGFutura units have already been sold worldwide.
