Liquid transfer system improves worker safety

Stricter health and safety legislation means process engineers are always on the lookout for equipment that will transfer hazardous liquids more safely. The Liquisafe handling system does this by virtually eliminating all worker contact with hazardous chemicals during transfer.

Supplied by White Bros, of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, the unit is suspended above a drum and by using a retractable dip pipe the liquid is extracted or injected while fumes are safely drawn off through a sealed extraction pipe.

The Liquisafe unit is moved on an overhead carriage revolving through 180°, allowing easy access to four drums on a pallet. The unit is available in a number of sizes and configurations to deal with differing applications.

Constructed in a range of materials, Liquisafe enables harmful, irritant, corrosive, toxic and sensitising substances to be handled safely with minimal personal protection equipment. Health risks are substantially reduced through the prevention of skin contact, escaped vapours, spills and splashes.

Liquisafe also improves GMP by reducing the risk of cross-contamination to the transfer pipe and can be completely disassembled in minutes for easy cleaning. Ergonomic design ensures that Liquisafe is light, manoeuvrable and operator-friendly, the company says.
