Lubrizol to showcase drug delivery excipients at CPHI Milan

Lubrizol will highlight its Apisolex, Apinovex and Carbopol pharmaceutical excipients at CPHI Milan, targeting challenges including API solubility, bioavailability, drug loading and patient acceptability

Lubrizol has announced it will be showcasing its portfolio of multifunctional pharmaceutical excipients at CPHI Milan, demonstrating technologies designed to address drug delivery challenges across injectable, oral and topical dosage forms.

The company will exhibit at stand 1F40 in the Excipients & Fine Chemicals Zone from 6-8 October, highlighting how its excipient technologies can improve formulation performance, patient experience and product differentiation.


Among the technologies on display will be Apisolex, a polyamino acid-based polymer excipient designed for injectable and oral drug delivery.

The excipient uses a micelle-formulation mechanism to enhance API solubility by up to 50,000-fold and support drug loading of up to 40%.

Based on sarcosine, which Lubrizol describes as a non-toxic, biologically inert and biodegradable amino acid, Apisolex is designed to enable simpler formulation approaches while potentially supporting reduced dosing frequency or duration.


Lubrizol will also highlight Apinovex, a high-molecular-weight polymer excipient for oral dosage forms.

The technology is compatible with a broad range of BCS Class II and Class IV APIs and can deliver up to a 10-fold improvement in the dissolution of crystalline APIs.

Apinovex can support drug loading of up to 80% through spray drying, potentially enabling smaller tablets and capsules — potentially helping pharma developers address patient acceptability alongside formulation and manufacturing requirements.

The company will also showcase its Carbopol pharmaceutical excipients, which are used across controlled-release, bioadhesive, topical and formulation-stabilisation applications.

For oral formulations, Carbopol polymers can support tablet hardness, reduce friability and enable high drug loading and taste masking. In topical formulations, they can provide texture and stability in creams, lotions and gels.
