Malvern shows latest in particle analysis technology

Published: 9-Feb-2002

Malvern Instruments' latest developments in particle analysis – the PharmaVision 830 particle shape and size analyser and the HPPS (High Performance Particle Sizer) system – will be on display at Pittcon 2002.

The compact, robust Malvern HPPS particle size analyser features non-invasive backscatter (NIBS) technology, and is said to cover an application range previously requiring three conventional dynamic light scattering systems. It is the first instrument to deliver particle size measurement at high sensitivity and high concentration over a wide size range (0.6nm to 6 microns), Malvern claims. The HPPS is especially suited to the measurement of colloidal systems and macromolecules in solution.

The company's PharmaVision 830 provides accurate particle size and shape data from direct sample measurements of dry powders using automated imaging techniques. It can characterise particles as small as 0.5µm and analyse 20,000 particles in less than 15 minutes.
