Coding and marking specialist Markem is aiming to strengthen its position in the thermal transfer coding sector with the introduction of the new SmartDate 3 Plus range.
Two new models - the SmartDate 3i Plus and 3c Plus - are being shown in the UK for the first time. Both thermal transfer coders feature a new Markem development: SmartTouch - a common user interface that provides a faster and easier way to control coding operations.
Important features of the SmartDate 3i Plus and 3c Plus are more processing power for faster imaging, an expanded database memory, portable data transport and added flexibility for the integration of other systems. They also have easy operator fault-finding capabilities and remote diagnostics.
The SmartTouch graphical user interface has touch-screen controls that allow users to program, design and back-up legends both on and off-line. The results of changes are viewed through the colour WYSIWYG display. It also reduces the training and technical documentation necessary to operate a piece of coding equipment. Housed in a hand-held, portable device, SmartTouch allows users to network multiple Markem printers without the need for a central PC, monitor the status of all on-line printers and control up to four printers with a single interface. SmartTouch is also able to display and use complex graphic interfaces that support non-Roman characters such as those required in Asian languages.
