Danish company Niro is undertaking a massive expansion of its drying test centre at its Copenhagen head office.
Using new funding from the GEA group, the test centre will be the largest of its type in Europe when complete, with over 35 different pilot plants available for customers' use.
The centre already has a huge range of equipment for process and product evaluation; including spray drying, freeze drying, extraction, agglomeration and laboratory facilities. The expansion, taking place over the next six months, will see the arrival of additional equipment; including swirl fluidiser and spray fluidiser technology specifically for drying pastes, filter cakes and highly viscous liquids.
The centre is available for product and process evaluation, allowing customers to test products for quality and properly evaluate processes prior to scale-up to full production. It is also used by Niro customers for drying batches of product for short run projects.
The company also has a separate pharma test centre at the Copenhagen site operating under full GMP and approved by the Danish Medical Board for the production of drugs for clinical trials. It can evaluate spray drying processes using both aqueous and organic solvent feeds, has a clean room rating of 100,000 and process control that is full 21 CFR part 11 compliant. Equipment includes the PSD 4, PSD 1 and SD Micro.
