Merck names new global head of clinical r&d
Merck KgaA, of Germany, has announced the appointment of Dr Thomas Lander as global head of clinical research and development with effect from 1 September.
Merck KgaA, of Germany, has announced the appointment of Dr Thomas Lander as global head of clinical research and development with effect from 1 September.
He will succeed Professor Irwin Scher, who will continue to work for Merck as a consultant.
Dr Lander trained as an internist and specialised in the treatment of diabetes. He has extensive and varied experience in clinical r&d covering a broad spectrum of disease areas, and has held a number of senior positions at pharmaceutical companies, most recently as medical director for GlaxoSmithKline in Germany.
Dr Lander has been a co-founder and managing director of the Munich-based Genetics Research Centre (GRC).
