METabolic EXplorer invests in production facility

METabolic EXplorer, an industrial biotechnology company focused on the bio-production of bulk chemicals, has started the development of its first pilot production facility.


METabolic EXplorer, an industrial biotechnology company focused on the bio-production of bulk chemicals, has started the development of its first pilot production facility.

The new flexible facility can be used for the pilot production of any of the company's proprietary products, namely, 1,2 Propanediol (MPG), 1,3 Propanediol (PDO) and Butanol.

This new facility will be based at METabolic EXplorer's headquarters in Clermont-Ferrand and it is expected to be completed and fully operational by the end of year. The first investment of over Euro 4m will consist of fermentators of 7 to 800 litres capacity as well as the equipment to manage the process optimisation from renewable feedstock including the separation of the biomass.

Olivier Nore, vice president of industrialisation at the firm, said: "Once this pilot facility is up and running we will be able to optimise the fermentation parameters for the production of each of our proprietary products, thereby increasing their value in the eyes of the potential partners."
