Millipore acquires European contract testing lab
US bioscience products and services company Millipore Corporation has acquired Dutch contract laboratory MicroSafe for approximately US$9.3m.
US bioscience products and services company Millipore Corporation has acquired Dutch contract laboratory MicroSafe for approximately US$9.3m.
MicroSafe develops assays and provides a range of testing services to help leading European biotech and pharmaceutical customers monitor for quality and compliance in the drug manufacturing process.
The company employs 30 professionals and is based in Leiden in the Netherlands. It has annual revenues of $4m, has received GMP and GLP approvals and is currently expanding its capabilities to meet growing customer needs.
Fathia Methnani, MicroSafe managing director, will continue to direct MicroSafe operations. 'With Millipore's market presence in Europe and scientists and applications specialists in the field we will be able to bring our services to more clients and we'll be able to expand those service offerings,' she said.
Millipore chairman, ceo and president Martin D. Madaus added that MicroSafe would help Millipore expand the scope of service it offers to the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors, particularly in the area of virus and mycoplasma testing. 'Their application knowledge will also help us accelerate development of products and systems for rapid process monitoring,' he said.
