Nanodisc, from Chicago, IL, is commercialising nanoscale structures that enable drug researchers to finally isolate and easily work with membrane-bound proteins, some of the most important molecules in medicine.

Until now, working with these targets has been difficult because removing them from the cell membrane alters their shape and destroys their function.

Nanodisc's novel structures allow membrane-bound proteins to function as though they are in their own environment, enabling researchers to manipulate them easily for drug discovery. Nanodisc has a worldwide, exclusive commercial license for all applications of the Nanodisc technology with University of Illinois, Urbana-Champagne.
