STEMMER IMAGING has introduced the CNR-110NW "Natural Light" LED ring light from lighting specialist CCS Inc. With a colour rendering index (CRI) of Ra98, it offers the closest approximation to illumination by sunlight (CRI Ra100) to give a much more accurate colour representation for medical imaging and scientific imaging than is possible using other illumination sources.
The CNR-110NW is compatible with stereomicroscopes from a number of manufacturers. It features a unique collective lens to ensure bright illumination over the field of view. An outstanding light intensity of 35, 000 lx can be achieved at a working distance of 110 mm. In addition, the CNR-110NW emits only minimal amounts of UV and infrared radiation, which not only reduces eye strain but also minimises colour fading or other damage to the illuminated objects.
The apparent colour of an object is a function of the spectral distribution of the illumination source. The "Natural Light" LED has a similar broad spectral distribution to sunlight, unlike other illumination sources such as fluorescent light and common white LEDs which have peaks at specific wavelengths in their spectral distributions.
The new ring light features a unique mounting method which eliminates the need to reduce the working distance under the objective lens. A low power consumption of 5.7 W and a lifetime in excess of fluorescent lights ensures low running costs.
