New ampoules meet highest standards

Schott forma vitrum, a leading supplier of primary packaging to the pharmaceutical industry, has launched TopLine ampoules, which are claimed to offer total safety for the ampoule user by easy and consistent opening, as well as improved productivity on filling and packaging lines.

TopLine ampoules can be opened easily, safely and with a consistent force, the company says, enabling the range of the breaking force needed to be reduced to 50% of the relevant ISO quality standard. To achieve this, new manufacturing techniques and equipment have been developed and introduced at the Pont-sur-Yonne manufacturing site in France. These include a new generation of devices for the One Point Cut (OPC) breaking system, a laser-controlled monitoring system for ensuring specific ampoule dimensions (stem regulation system) and a high-precision forming machine.

All production equipment is fitted with a computer-controlled monitoring system, as well as with a high-tech statistical process control system. In addition, automated introduction of the glass tubes used in the production of the ampoules improves cleanliness standards. The ampoules are manufactured according to GMP guidelines on 12 new production lines.

'The introduction of this product line means a further step for us in our development from just a manufacturer of pharmaceutical packaging products to becoming a creative solutions provider for the pharmaceutical industry,' said Jean-Jacques Chappaz, responsible for marketing and sales.
