New dry probiotic formulation for IBS and stress symptoms
Institut Rosell, a French Canadian company specialising in probiotic formulations for human health, has developed a solid probiotic formulation in a portable stickpack format
The company's Probio'Stick targets the growing numbers of people suffering gastrointestinal disorders, IBS and stress.
The solid dose product has a shelf-life of 18-24 months and allies a proprietary micro-encapsulation technology to a combination of two of the Institut's probiotic strains - L. Rosell-52 and B. Rosell-175.
The protective micro-encapsulation formulations mean that the probiotics resist gastric acid and, therefore, can be taken at any time of day, without water.
A double-blind placebo controlled randomised trial in stressed subjects has been performed in France with the Probio'Stick. After three weeks of daily administration of the probiotic, stress-induced gastrointestinal symptoms, nausea and abdominal pain were significantly reduced by 49%, compared with a control group.
