New ingredient matrix increases nutrient absorption

A new matrix that protects nutrients during manufacturing and storage and then releases them in the stomach so they can be absorbed by the body has been developed by DSM Nutritional Products.
Called Actilease, the matrix comprises beadlets that contain tiny droplets of micronutrients inside a protective food starch or gelatin matrix.
In addition to maximising nutrient absorption, this innovative product form prevents tabletting losses and interactions with other compounds. It also provides superior stability and a very low extrusion loss, which means lower overages and smaller tablets, says DSM.
Convenient handling characteristics are provided by the low hygroscopicity of the matrix, as well as excellent flowability and uniform particle size.
The Actilease process is currently available for the company's ingredients Lutein, Optisharp (Zeaxanthin), redivivo (Lycopene), All-Q (CoQ10), Beta-Carotene, Ropufa (polyunsaturated fatty acids) and fat soluble vitamins.
