Doyen Medipharm has appointed Tony Blake as managing director of its Doyen UK and European operations. He takes over from company founder Alan Isaacs, who is now able to concentrate on his role as chairman of the Doyen Group.

Valois, part of the Aptar Group, has made a number of key appointments. Gerard Ducourret is the new vice president industrial operation of Valois pharmaceutical division and director of the Vaudreuil and Val de Reuil sites in France. In the same division Jean-Marc Pardonge has been promoted to vice president r&d, having been r&d associate director since March 2000. Meanwhile, Valois of America has named Alex Theodorakis as vice president, sales & marketing, pharmaceutical division.

Erin O'Brien has been promoted to European sales director for FMC BioPolymer's pharmaceutical business. O'Brien, who will be relocating to Brussels, brings nine years of pharmaceutical sales and marketing experience to her new role, most recently as global marketing manager for FMC's Avicel product line.

She succeeds Eric Beatty, who has been named director, business development, for FMC BioPolymer and will be returning to North America to lead the division's growth initiatives.

UK chemical process development company Synprotec has appointed Dr David Manwaring to the board as non executive director. A former senior executive with Aventis, Manwaring brings 30 years of global pharmaceutical experience and a wealth of strategic, operational and technical expertise to the company. Synprotec has also announced the confirmation of Dr Peter Nightingale as chairman. He founded Synprotec in 1985 and has guided the company's innovative approach to problem solving since then.

DT Packaging Systems, the UK specialist in tablet counting and liquid filling systems, has appointed John MacKenzie as sales director. He will be responsible for sales of the Swiftpack and King product ranges in the UK and Ireland. MacKenzie has 28 years' experience working within the pharmaceutical industry in engineering and sales management.

Bill Wedlake has been named chief executive officer of NextPharma Technologies, a leading provider of drug development and manufacturing outsourcing services. He joined NextPharma in July 2000 as chief financial officer and was appointed acting ceo in July 2002.
