Single-trip bulk bag unloader cuts process time

Specifically engineered for the rapid release of material from ‘single-trip’ bulk transfer bags

The latest bulk bag unloader being introduced by Flexicon Europe has been specifically engineered for the rapid release of material from ‘single-trip’ bulk transfer bags. It allows material to flow freely into the hopper, which is attached to an integral flexible screw conveyor for transfer at any angle to downstream processing, storage or packaging equipment.

A particular advantage of the new bulk bag unloader is that it allows bulk bag discharge to take place in areas of low headroom, relying on the user's forklift or plant hoist to lower single-use bulk bags onto a four-bladed bag piercing knife. This cuts the bag bottom from seam-to-seam, allowing it to self-seal against a thick gasket affixed to the rim of the hopper and permitting complete discharge through a wide diameter hole in the centre of the gasket.

The new Single-Trip Bulk Bag Unloader is built to the highest standards either in a stainless steel finish that conforms to industrial, food, dairy or pharmaceutical standards, or of carbon steel with durable industrial finish. This versatile unit, like most product developments by Flexicon, is suitable for handling a diverse range of free- and non-free-flowing bulk materials ranging from large pellets to sub-micron powders.

In applications where there is potential for dust release into the atmosphere, Flexicon has also introduced a dust plenum, consisting of a hollow hopper rim with interior slots and exterior port vented to a plant dust collection system, as a secondary dust containment measure.

Many organisations use single-trip bags as they can be less costly to purchase as well as reducing the amount of material to be discarded or recycled compared with reusable bags, many of which are discarded after just one use.

Introduction of the Single-Trip Bulk Bag Unloader enables companies with restricted headroom now to draw on the expertise of Flexicon to help increase the speed and efficiency with which material can be released into a downstream process. An alternative to using the Flexicon screw conveyor is to connect to a pneumatic conveying system or supply the unit with appropriate outlet flanges for direct connections to the user’s downstream equipment.

The new Single-Trip Bulk Bag Unloader is the latest addition to a comprehensive range of bulk handling systems including bulk bag unloaders for reusable bags, bulk bag conditioners, bulk bag fillers, drum/box/container fillers and dumpers, pneumatic conveying systems, bag dump stations, weigh batching and blending systems as well as bespoke engineered plant-wide bulk handling systems.
