NMR probes are super cool
Cryogenic nuclear magnetic resonance probes from Varian are aimed at genomics, proteomics and drug discovery and development applications. Cooled using liquid helium, the probes offer a three or four-fold increase in sensitivity compared to conventional NMR probes, according to the company.
The added sensitivity of the probes should enable faster study of proteins and nucleic acids. It will also allow NMR studies on small sample quantities or low concentrations where NMR could not be used before.
