Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics breaks ground for new manufacturing facility

Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company, has started work on a new 135,000ft2 manufacturing facility in Pencoed, Wales. The new facility will be operational by 2010 and will replace the company's current plant in Cardiff.

Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, a Johnson & Johnson company, has started work on a new 135,000ft2 manufacturing facility in Pencoed, Wales. The new facility will be operational by 2010 and will replace the company's current plant in Cardiff.

The new facility will consist of a 125,000ft2 main building (manufacturing areas and offices on three floors); an 8,000ft2 utility building; a sprinkler tank and pump house; and a 2,000ft2 gatehouse. The 400 employees who currently work in the leased facility in Cardiff will transfer to this new location, which will be wholly owned and operated by Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics.

In Wales, the company manufactures advanced diagnostic tests for a range of medical conditions and diseases, including thyroid and cardiac disease, infertility, anemia, cancer and infectious diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. The tests are used on Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics' instrumentation in clinical laboratories around the globe.
